Bay Haven Elementary is a historical, neighborhood school on a confined site that required a major addition and site re-construction to weave into the existing architectural fabric. Project consists of a new partial two story building consisting of a new media center, music suite, MDF, cafetorium, stage and new kitchen. The existing media center, cafetorium and kitchen was demolished and in its place is a new secure courtyard. The expansive courtyard not only improves the beautification of the campus, but also has a functional purpose by creating an enclosed meeting space big enough to hold the students, teachers, and parents for events.
The school’s value for creative expression and structured collaboration was incorporated into the branding and design of each new space. The new library & media center was designed to enrich the reading and learning experience for each student. Instead of the standard wood table and chairs, the design team filled the space with bright beanbag chairs and modern funky furniture to promote creativity. The cafeteria incorporates the school’s bright aqua color scheme, and also includes a performance platform that allows the space to function as an auditorium for student concerts, large meetings and performances.
