“The building serves as public artwork.”-Winston Baugh, Project Manager, FPL Energy Services
The Manatee County Central Energy Plant, located on a strategic site in Downtown Bradenton, is designed to serve the downtown core with chilled water for air conditioning purposes. Using highly efficient equipment, the plant is intended to replace chiller equipment located on the buildings themselves and provide an energy saving alternative to building cooling. Since the plant itself is located within the City of Bradenton Form Based Code area, the design had to meet both the design requirements imposed by the code and the requirements for public art. To achieve this, the entire building was designed as public art with large glass doors showcasing the equipment inside in a celebration of the machine.
